Mark & Rosalyn
Mark “Nick” Nickelson and his wife, Rosalyn, have shared a passion for revitalizing old homes since the beginning of their marriage. This passion led them to explore numerous properties in their quest to find the ideal project, blending their love for renovation with their life’s work.
Their first joint endeavor involved bringing an old farmhouse back to life, nestled in Southern California’s Inland Empire, amidst the picturesque backdrop of Temecula’s vineyards.
On a particularly exhausting day after scouting potential sites, they stumbled upon a home that many would overlook due to its seemingly worn-out and outdated appearance. Yet, as they approached the house along the neglected driveway, something clicked for Nick. Despite its current state, Nick’s vision pierced through the disrepair, and he knew they had found their gem. There was an inexplicable appeal that only he could see at the time, a promise of what the home could become.
Embracing the property’s latent potential, they moved in and set about transforming the house. This project marked the beginning of a new chapter—not merely another renovation, but an embodiment of life’s calling. They assembled a dedicated crew, of specialists in vineyard care, which attests to the property’s uniqueness and their commitment to the land.
Under Nick’s watchful eye, different teams collaborated to materialize his imaginative blueprint, meticulously restoring the house’s grandeur, one feature at a time. This inaugural project laid down the foundation for their future endeavors, evolving into a cycle wherein vision catalyzes the dream into reality.
Their journey is a testament to the conviction that there’s inherent beauty in all things, waiting to be discovered and cherished. This realization was not just about redecorating spaces but cultivating an enduring lifestyle—an intersection of professional craftsmanship and personal fulfillment where even imperfections serve a purpose.
For Nick and Rosalyn, each renovation is a reaffirmation that by looking beyond what’s immediately visible and trusting fully in the potential before them, the greatest rewards await. Their unwavering drive to unveil and harness the intrinsic beauty of every structure is at the heart of their transformational ethos.
CONSTRUCTION
Nick is experienced in all phases of construction, particularly construction management, the development of large-scale projects, and residential home building. In 1992, Nick and his father started Nickelson Custom Construction and worked primarily as a residential remodeling and home-building company in San Diego, California. Over the course of the years, the business grew into a thriving company, focusing on custom design and construction.
Starting their “journey” together on the West Coast combined with 20+ years of skill and expertise, the Nickelson’s journey would soon lead them in another direction. Their initial plan was to build a vacation home in Nick’s hometown, however, once they arrived, that all would change. Nick was greeted with the memories of the sweet south he had come to know as a young boy.
A vision of old brick buildings lined up and down the streets, historic homes, many in much needed repair, were now the inspiration for Southern Dream Homes and a spark was lit. Southern Dream Homes was created with a special emphasis in focusing its design towards, building, and developing Southern-style homes for Southern-style living bringing beauty and “the dream” to those who seek it throughout South Carolina.
